HUGE SYSTEMS INTRODUCES RAIDE CART™
New Product Provides Low Cost Storage And Backup

(August 27, 2001 - Marina del Rey, CA) Huge Systems, a new manufacturer of RAID Storage Solutions for SDTV and HDTV applications, is introducing their new RaIDE Cart™ product at this week's Wedding and Event Video Expo 2001, scheduled for August 27-30, 2001 at Bally's Las Vegas.

RaIDE Cart combines the best features of disk and tape in a compact, mini-tower desktop form factor. The RaIDE Cart has four removable cartridges that each hold up to 100 GigaBytes (GB) of standard IDE disk storage. As a result, large amounts of data can easily be stored on-site or moved to another location. In addition, as higher capacity IDE drives are introduced, even more storage will be available through RaIDE Cart.

The removable cartridge design allows RaIDE Cart to be used in a wide variety of applications. A single cartridge can be used to store and edit DV material. Two cartridges can be used together to handle a multi stream DV application or a single uncompressed SD stream. Using all four together provides enough bandwidth for multiple uncompressed streams of SD material.

In addition to "online" storage, RaIDE Cart is also an impressive backup device. Advances in IDE disk drive technology have made it possible to configure disk-based backup systems that actually cost less than traditional tape-based alternatives! A 100 GB IDE drive sells for approximately $230 today, or $2.30 per GB. A 20 GB DLT tape cartridge costs about $60, or $3.00 per GB.

RaIDE Cart also outperforms traditional tape backup solutions. A single cartridge can back up data at over 40 MegaBytes (MB)/Second and four cartridges can back up data at over 80 MB/Second. Best of all, disk-based backup is uncompressed and doesn't require a lengthy "restore" operation to gain access to the data.

RaIDE Cart connects easily to any computer using a SCSI LVD U160 cable and is compatible with all major Host Bus Adapters. As a standard SCSI device, it works seamlessly with existing storage on a computer. This design makes it possible for users to switch between online and backup storage operations quickly and easily.

"RaIDE Cart is a perfect example of creating new uses for existing technology," explains Mike Anderson, Chief Designer of the RaIDE Cart and HugeMediaVault™ products. "It's great low cost storage for editing video and audio, and the removable cartridges make it perfect for backup and archiving of important data."

RaIDE Cart will be available in September 2001 with prices starting at less than $1,400.
