CFE^® ADDS FEATURES TO GALLEA^® AND PENETRATES TAIWAN MARKET
90 Boards Delivered to Taiwan, Support for AVI and In:Sync Announced

(Las Vegas, NV – April 6, 1998) CFE is pleased to announce new capabilities for its Gallea videographics engine. These new features, which increase the flexibility of the product and should increase its market acceptance, are being announced as CFE delivers its largest order ever. The Gallea and new software will be demonstrated by CFE at NAB in booth M7825 of the Sands Convention Center.

The Gallea can now be used with Speed Razor 4.0 from In:Sync Corporation. Speed Razor, which is primarily used for non-linear video editing, also includes functions for advanced special effects and compositing. The Gallea provides true uncompressed video capture and playback to this package, which results in extremely high quality video creation and manipulation. When multiple layers are used, the need for uncompressed video increases tremendously. The combination of the Gallea and Speed Razor can meet this challenge.

CFE has also developed a standard Microsoft^® AVI CODEC for the Gallea. With this CODEC, the Gallea can be used directly from a wide variety of software packages running under Microsoft^® Windows NT^®. This will allow a very large installed base of video professionals to upgrade to the Gallea without having to change the way they work.

Last year, CFE released a Standard Developer Kit (SDK) for the Gallea. The SDK makes it easier for custom applications to be developed around the advanced capabilities of the Gallea. After purchasing the SDK from CFE, a large Taiwanese company began developing advanced video applications for the Chinese market. These applications became available last year and resulted in an initial order for 90 Gallea boards. Another order for 100 Gallea boards has also been received, making this the largest order CFE has ever received from one company. Deliveries have already started and are scheduled to continue throughout 1998. After all of the installations are completed, the Gallea will be one of the most popular platforms for computer-based video applications in Taiwan.

The Gallea is a single slot PCI bus card that supports all popular video formats and 24-bit color with an 8-bit alpha channel. It includes mixing, fading, and keying functions as standard features. The Gallea is the only single-slot, 32-bit PCI videographics engine capable of uncompressed video capture using standard UltraSCSI, Fibre Channel or SSA disk arrays. It incorporates CFE’s patented DVES^® (Digital Video Editing System) architecture, which provides advanced capabilities for the manipulation of digital video. The Gallea’s DVES ASIC contains two processors that can simultaneously read or write to their memory planes at over 50 MegaBytes per second (MBps). This high-speed processing power makes the Gallea ideally suited for broadcast video applications.
