FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EXATEL INTRODUCES DVN-2000 MPEG-2 ENCODER
Cost-Effective, High-Performance, Standards-Based Product For Digital Video Networking and Broadcast Applications

(Burlington, MA - November 15, 1999) Exatel, a new company providing digital video networking solutions, is proud to introduce the DVN-2000, a professional quality, stand alone MPEG-2 encoder priced at only $8000. Scheduled to begin shipping in January 2000, the DVN-2000 provides the full set of features required by video professionals and is a key component of any digital video network.

The DVN-2000 accepts a variety of digital and analog input signals, including Composite, Component and SDI video as well as AES/EBU and analog stereo audio. The audio and video data is encoded in real-time and the compressed data is formatted and transmitted using the DVB-ASI and SMPTE-310M standards. At this year's IBC show, the DVN-2000 was demonstrated for the first time with DVB-ASI output and was very well received. At NAB 2000, Exatel will showcase the SMPTE-310M output capability.

"The DVN-2000 addresses the needs of companies who are looking for a low cost, high performance MPEG-2 encoder," states Eli Warsawski, President of Exatel Inc. "With its innovative architecture, the DVN-2000 provides unsurpassed performance and versatility at a price far lower than other MPEG-2 encoders. The DVN-2000 is ideal for mobile applications such as ENG and DSNG."

Product Highlights
For easy integration into any environment, the DVN-2000 is packaged in a compact, 19 inch, 1U wide, rack mounted chassis. A front panel LCD display and keypad provide a user-friendly operator interface for direct control. An RS232 serial interface supports remote control applications.

The DVN-2000 uses an adaptive field/frame MPEG-2 Main Profile @ Main Level algorithm, achieving a variable bit rate of 128Kbps-24Mbps. It performs real time multiplexing and complies with industry standards, providing compatibility with a wide range of distribution applications. The product is targeted at terrestrial and satellite television broadcast, Field News Gathering, Electronic News Gathering, Digital Satellite News Gathering (FNG/ENG/DSNG) and other video distribution applications.
